Preparing your Umrah

Umrah season 1448 dates: the official calendar and Ramadan 2027 (forecast, to be confirmed)

In short

For the 1448 Umrah season, the Saudi ministry in charge of Umrah set Umrah visa issuance from 31 May 2026 to 9 March 2027, with a last entry on 23 March 2027 and a last departure on 7 April 2027. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to the crescent sighting; Eid al-Fitr on 9 March 2027 is also the last day Umrah visas are issued. The tourist eVisa follows its own validity, but the seasonal closure period applies to every visa.

The official calendar for the 1448 season

On 17 May 2026, the Saudi ministry in charge of Umrah published the calendar for the 1448 Umrah season. It sets five dates: the start of Umrah visa issuance, the opening of permits in Nusuk, the last issuance, the last entry and the last departure. We add the expected Ramadan 2027 dates, clearly marked as forecasts.

The seasonal closure period: the 2026 example

Every year, a seasonal closure period pauses Umrah for several weeks. It does not depend on your visa: it applies to everyone. The year 2026 gives a sense of scale, based on announcements by the General Directorate of Public Security.

  • From 13 April 2026, residents needed a permit to enter Makkah.
  • By 18 April 2026, Umrah visa holders had to have left the country. From that date, holders of all visa types could neither enter nor stay in Makkah, except for the visa specific to that period.
  • From 18 April to 31 May 2026, Nusuk stopped issuing Umrah permits to citizens, Gulf nationals, residents and holders of other visas.

The 1448 season then opened on 31 May 2026 for Umrah visas, and on 1 June for permits in Nusuk. In 2026 the closure therefore lasted about six weeks.

Ramadan 2027: what is fixed and what is still to be confirmed

Only one Ramadan 2027 date appears in the official calendar: 1 Shawwal 1448, the day of Eid al-Fitr, set for 9 March 2027. It is also the last day Umrah visas are issued.

The start of the month is still a forecast. According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, as reported by the travel blog Wego, Ramadan should begin on Monday 8 February 2027, after the crescent sighting on Sunday 7 February, the eve of 1 Ramadan. Some countries may start on 8 or 9 February. The last ten nights would then fall around late February and early March 2027.

What these dates mean for you

With an Umrah visa through Nusuk

For Ramadan 2027, the key date is 9 March: the last day of Umrah visa issuance is Eid day itself. A visa for the end of Ramadan must therefore be issued before then. But an Umrah visa applied for too early can be lost: if it has not been used to enter within 30 days of issuance, it is cancelled. So apply within the 30 days before your planned entry, with issuance by 9 March 2027 at the latest. Entry must take place by 23 March 2027; once in the Kingdom, the stay remains up to 90 days, within the last departure date of 7 April 2027.

With the tourist eVisa

The tourist eVisa is valid for one year, with multiple entries and stays of up to 90 days. It allows Umrah outside the seasonal closure period. The Umrah visa issuance dates do not apply to it directly, but the closure does.

For Ramadan, the sensitive point is the permit. It is booked in the Nusuk app for a given date and time, and only one permit can be active at a time. Slots open several weeks ahead and the opening varies, so book as soon as your visa is issued, especially for the last ten nights. Our guide to booking your Umrah permit in Nusuk walks through the steps.

For an agency and its groups

A group often mixes both visas. Pilgrims on an Umrah visa follow the calendar above; those on an eVisa follow their visa's validity, within the limits of the closure. Our guide to filing group Umrah visas covers these constraints.

Planning a trip in the 1448 season

  1. Identify each traveller's route

Run every nationality through our eligibility checker. The eVisa or Nusuk guide explains how to choose.

  2. Fit your dates to the calendar

With an Umrah visa: issued by 9 March, entry by 23 March, departure by 7 April 2027. With the eVisa: stay outside the seasonal closure period.

  3. Apply for the visa at the right time

With an Umrah visa: within the 30 days before entry, since a visa not used within that time is cancelled, and for issuance by 9 March 2027 at the latest. The eVisa, valid for one year, involves no such wait. Issuance remains the decision of the Saudi authorities, and no processing time can be promised.

  4. Book the permit in Nusuk

As soon as the visa is issued, for the date and time you want. To change the slot, cancel before the booked time and book a new permit.

  5. Check again before you travel

The 2027 closure dates and the start of Ramadan are still to be confirmed. Check them again a few weeks before departure.

What myumrahvisa does for you

We currently apply for the tourist eVisa on behalf of individual travellers and travel agencies: you send the passports, we review every file, enter the application on the official portal and deliver the visas. Agencies can also have the Umrah visa through Nusuk entered on their own account (connect your Nusuk account). Individual travellers request it from their account, by filling in the request form: see the Umrah visa page.

Frequently asked questions

When does the 1448 Umrah season end?

Under the official calendar, Umrah visas are issued until 9 March 2027 (1 Shawwal 1448). The last entry into the Kingdom is set for 23 March 2027 and the last departure for 7 April 2027.

When does Ramadan 2027 start?

According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, it is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, after the crescent sighting on Sunday 7 February. Depending on the country, the first day may be 8 or 9 February. This is a forecast, not an official date.

Can I perform Umrah during Ramadan 2027?

Yes, Ramadan 2027 falls within the 1448 season. With an Umrah visa, note that the last issuance day is Eid itself, 9 March 2027, and that an Umrah visa not used to enter within 30 days of issuance is cancelled. So apply within the 30 days before you plan to enter, with issuance by 9 March 2027 at the latest.

Do these dates apply to the tourist eVisa?

The issuance dates concern the Umrah visa. The tourist eVisa follows its own one-year validity, but the seasonal closure period, when access to Makkah is restricted, applies to every visa.

When is the 2027 seasonal closure period?

Its dates have not been published yet. In 2026, Nusuk stopped issuing Umrah permits from 18 April to 31 May. As the closure follows the Hijri calendar, it could begin around 8 April 2027, about ten days earlier. We will update this guide once the official announcement is out.
