Preparing your Umrah

Umrah visa validity: the deadline to enter and how long you can stay

In short

On an Umrah visa, you can stay for up to 90 days and the visa cannot be extended, according to the FAQ of the Saudi ministry in charge of Umrah. On the tourist eVisa, the official platform gives a 90-day stay: single entry, valid for 90 days; multiple entry, valid for one year with up to 90 days per stay. Either way, the seasonal closure shuts access to Makkah.

The key durations at a glance

Three durations are often confused: the deadline to enter the Kingdom, how long the visa is valid, and how long you may stay once you arrive. They differ between the tourist eVisa and the Umrah visa. The table compares them, each row with its source.

The Umrah visa: 90 days, no extension

The 90 days are a ceiling. If your package covers two weeks, the end of the programme is what counts for the Umrah company responsible for you. During your stay, the same FAQ says the Umrah visa lets you travel between Makkah, Madinah and every city in the Kingdom.

To come back, simply apply for a new one: the official FAQ confirms an Umrah visa can be obtained more than once a year.

The deadline to enter

Here the sources disagree. The official FAQ still says a visa obtained from an embassy allows entry within three months of issue. At the end of October 2025, Gulf News, citing Al Arabiya, reported that this window was cut from three months to one: an Umrah visa not used to enter within 30 days of issue is cancelled automatically, while the length of stay is unchanged.

The season dates

The Umrah visa also follows the season calendar. For 1448, the ministry set the last issue date at 9 March 2027, the last entry at 23 March 2027 and the last departure at 7 April 2027. A visa issued late in the season therefore leaves less than 90 days. Every date is in our Umrah season 1448 calendar.

The tourist eVisa: 90 days per stay

That is how the official platform ksavisa.sa puts it. The UK government describes the eVisa differently: valid for 365 days from issue, multiple entry, but for 90 days in total across that period. The two readings give different answers if you travel often. The wording printed on your visa settles it.

The eVisa requires no package and also covers tourism and family visits. For Umrah, you still need a Nusuk permit and must respect the seasonal closure, as our guide Umrah on the tourist eVisa explains.

The seasonal closure cuts validity for Makkah

Every year Makkah closes to most visitors for a few weeks. A visa that is still valid on paper then no longer lets you enter or stay there.

In practice, an Umrah visa issued in March does not give you 90 days if the closure falls in April: you leave before it. On the eVisa, the visa stays valid, but Umrah waits until the reopening. The 2027 closure dates have not been announced yet.

Overstaying: what the authorities say

The FAQ of the Saudi ministry in charge of Umrah states that fines and penalties for late departure fall outside its remit; it gives no amount. The governments of departure countries are more specific.

  • The French foreign ministry warns of penalties applied for each day of overstay, and says an overstay can prevent boarding and cost you your return ticket.
  • The UK government says overstaying can lead to large fines, detention and deportation, and that you could be banned from returning to Saudi Arabia.

To avoid this, book your return flight before the end of your authorised stay, and before the season's departure date if you travel on an Umrah visa.

What myumrahvisa does for you

We submit the tourist eVisa on behalf of individuals and travel agencies, and hand you the visa exactly as issued, with its duration wording. Read it before you book non-changeable tickets, and compare your dates with the seasonal closure as soon as they are announced.

To decide when to apply in relation to your departure, see our guide Saudi eVisa processing time. Issue and the length of stay granted remain decisions of the Saudi authorities.

According to the official platform, the single-entry visa is valid for 90 days with a 90-day stay, and the multiple-entry visa is valid for one year with up to 90 days per stay. The UK government describes 90 days in total over the year instead, so read the wording on your visa.
