Ramadan 2027 within the 1448 Umrah season

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, a forecast that depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. It ends with Eid al-Fitr, which the official season calendar places on 9 March 2027. Our 1448 Umrah season calendar lists every official date with its Hijri equivalent.

One date matters more than the others for the Umrah visa: Eid day is also the last day Umrah visas are issued this season. Entry remains possible until 23 March 2027. The tourist eVisa is not bound by these issue dates and follows its own one-year validity.

Your visa: apply early, at the right moment

In Ramadan, flights and hotels fill up quickly. An application that has to be redone (a rejected photo, a mistyped passport number) costs you days you can ill afford when everything is booked. Leave yourself a margin.

If your nationality or residence makes you eligible for the eVisa, it is often the more flexible route for Ramadan. Our guide eVisa or Umrah visa helps you choose, and our guide to eVisa processing times covers the cases that take longer.

The Nusuk permit: slots go quickly

The Umrah permit is still required in Ramadan, whatever your visa. It is booked in the Nusuk app for a given date and time. According to the official FAQ, only one permit can be active at a time: to change your slot, cancel before the booked time and book a new one.

Create your account as soon as you have your visa number, then watch for the Ramadan slots to open. In 2023 the Saudi press was already reporting whole days shown as full in the app. Our guide on creating a Nusuk account covers registration, and booking your permit in Nusuk covers the booking itself.

The Rawdah: a separate permit

If your trip includes Madinah, praying in the Rawdah at the Prophet's Mosque requires a second permit, separate from the Umrah permit. Slots are in high demand in Ramadan too, so book it at the same time as your Umrah permit.

The last ten nights: the biggest crowds

The last ten nights of Ramadan draw the largest crowds to Makkah. For Ramadan 2026, Gulf News reported the guidance issued to pilgrims: heavy congestion around the Grand Mosque before and after each prayer, indicators at the entrances (green when access is open, red when the area is full) and restrictions on cars in the central area.

  • Follow the security staff, the signs and the marked pedestrian routes.
  • Use buses, taxis and the Haramain high-speed railway rather than a car.
  • Leave promptly after prayers without stopping in entrances, corridors or emergency exits.
  • Keep children away from the densest areas at prayer times.
  • Older worshippers have dedicated prayer areas, priority routes and electric carts.

If you can, perform the Umrah itself away from the hours around prayer times, and pick a quieter slot in Nusuk.

Health: fasting, heat and vaccines

The meningitis vaccine is required of everyone coming for Umrah, at least 10 days before arrival. Other vaccines apply depending on where you travel from: our guide Umrah on the tourist eVisa sets them out.

The Saudi Ministry of Health has published advice on the heat: drink regularly even when not thirsty, wear light, pale clothing, use an umbrella and avoid direct sun between 10 am and 4 pm. It was written for the hot season, but Umrah involves long walks. While fasting, drink plenty between iftar and dawn. If you have a chronic condition or take medication, see your doctor before you go.

Frequently asked questions

Can I perform Umrah in Ramadan 2027?

Yes. Ramadan 2027 falls within the 1448 Umrah season, which opened in June 2026. Both the tourist eVisa and the Umrah visa allow it, together with a permit booked in Nusuk.

Can I perform more than one Umrah in Ramadan?

In past years the press reported that the Saudi ministry in charge of Umrah limited Ramadan to one Umrah per person: as a rule in 2023, and as a recommendation for the last ten days in 2025. We found no official text for 2027. The Nusuk app will tell you whether a second permit is accepted.

When should I apply for my Ramadan Umrah visa?

For an Umrah visa, within the 30 days before you enter, because a visa not used within that time is cancelled, and no later than issue on Eid day, the last issue date of the season. The eVisa is valid for a year, so you can apply several weeks ahead.

Do I need a permit for the Rawdah in Ramadan?

Yes. The official FAQ requires a permit to pray in the Rawdah and sets 30 days between two visits. It is booked in Nusuk, separately from the Umrah permit.

Is Umrah more expensive in Ramadan?

Visa fees are those shown on the official portal when you apply. Flights and hotels follow demand, which is very high in Ramadan, so book early and compare.

Can I fast while performing Umrah?

Yes, nothing prevents it. The Saudi Ministry of Health advises drinking regularly and avoiding the sun at the hottest hours. If you have a chronic condition or take medication, talk to your doctor about fasting before you travel.
